Deutsche Post to introduce new letter formats in 2027

Deutsche Post has announced a restructuring of its letter formats, effective January 1, 2027. The changes aim to simplify the shipping process, increase automation, and establish a clearer distinction between document and goods shipping.

For domestic shipments in Germany, the 'Großbrief National' will see an increase in weight capacity to 1,000 grams and a height limit of 3 cm. The 'Maxibrief National' will also see its weight limit double to 2,000 grams, with updated dimensions for length and width, though the height will be capped at 3 cm. The existing additional fee option for oversized Maxibriefs will be discontinued.

International shipping formats will also change. The 'Maxibrief international' will be abolished and replaced by the 'MidiBrief', which allows for a weight of up to 500 grams and a height of 2 cm. The 'Großbrief international' will have dimensions similar to the domestic Maxibrief but with a weight limit of 1,000 grams. Standard letters and postcards remain unaffected by these changes.
