Deutsche Post to restructure letter formats in 2027

Deutsche Post has announced a restructuring of its letter services, effective January 1, 2027. The company aims to reduce the number of available letter formats to create clearer distinctions between document and goods shipping. This change is intended to simplify the shipping process and allow standard sorting machines in mail centers to process items more reliably and quickly.

For domestic shipping in Germany, the 'Großbrief' format will see an increase in height and weight limits, while the 'Maxibrief' format will also expand its dimensions and weight capacity. Certain existing surcharges and specific product categories are expected to be phased out.

International shipping will also see adjustments, including the introduction of a new 'Midibrief Int.' format and changes to the dimensions and weight limits for international large and maxi letters.
