Deutsche Telekom expands 5G network and upgrades BayArena connectivity

Deutsche Telekom has implemented significant upgrades to its mobile network infrastructure in Germany, focusing on both high-traffic venues and regional coverage expansion.

At the BayArena, home to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the operator installed 41 new antennas and divided coverage into 14 separate mobile sectors. This upgrade aims to manage the intense data demand from up to 30,000 fans during Bundesliga matches, supporting both 4G LTE and 5G services across various frequencies. To assist with crowd movement, three microcells were also deployed near the stadium to improve connectivity during arrival and departure.

On a broader scale, Deutsche Telekom reported the activation of 81 new mobile sites and the expansion of 168 existing locations during July. Significant growth was noted in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and North Rhine-Westphalia. The company now operates more than 21,000 5G antennas at the 3.6 GHz frequency across approximately 1,300 municipalities, enabling download speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s.
