Deutsche Telekom to transition 1.3 million customers from analog landlines

Deutsche Telekom is transitioning approximately 1.3 million customers from legacy analog landline technology to modern alternatives. The phase-out targets connections based on MSAN-POTS technology, which is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain due to a lack of spare parts.

Many affected users will transition to a mobile-based solution using the ‘Call Connect via Funk’ hardware, which operates via the 4G/LTE network. While customers can retain their existing phone numbers, the new system has specific limitations: it does not support old rotary dial phones and requires an external power source, meaning service will be unavailable during power outages. Users with home emergency or alarm systems are advised to verify their functionality under this new setup.

In addition to the mobile-based box, Telekom is also moving customers toward fiber optic (FTTH) and DSL connections. The ‘Call Connect via Funk’ box is available for a one-time purchase of 99.99 Euro or a monthly rental fee of 3.95 Euro, with various monthly tariff options available.
