Deutsches Fotomuseum to close in Markkleeberg

The Deutsches Fotomuseum in Markkleeberg is scheduled to close on September 27 following a decision by the Markkleeberg city council to terminate the museum's lease. The city intends to move its own cultural office into the museum building.

The museum, which originated from the private collection of photographer Peter Langner, houses approximately 70,000 photographs and 3,000 historical camera models. It has been operated by the Kamer- und Fotomuseum Leipzig association since its relocation to Markkleeberg in 2013. Museum director Andreas J. Mueller confirmed the closure, noting that the museum had submitted concepts for continued use following the city's decision to end the rental agreement by the end of the year.
