Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk launches children's rights initiative

The Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk is hosting a month-long “Children's Rights Special” throughout September 2026 to mark World Children's Day. Under the motto “Strong Children, Strong Future!”, the initiative aims to make children's rights tangible through interactive content, articles, and a digital rally on the kindersache.de platform. The program focuses on participatory engagement, encouraging children to share their ideas and perspectives on their future.

In a broader context regarding children's rights, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the United Nations in 1989, continues to serve as a foundation for protecting and promoting the rights of young people. In Germany, political groups like the Greens are advocating for increased effectiveness of these rights, including proposals to lower the voting age to 16 for federal elections and addressing child poverty, noting that one in four children in Germany grows up in poverty.
