Deutz AG to buy German defense supplier FFG for €1.6 billion, pivoting to military systems

Cologne‑based engine manufacturer Deutz AG announced plans to acquire Flensburger defence specialist FFG for around €1.6 billion, the largest deal in its 160‑year history. The purchase is intended to transform Deutz from a traditional engine and off‑highway vehicle supplier into a system provider for complete military vehicle platforms, drives and energy solutions, supporting its goal to double revenue by 2030.

The deal raises operational challenges, including potential capacity bottlenecks and conflict‑of‑interest issues with existing customers such as Rheinmetall and the KNDS joint venture. Market reaction has been positive: Deutz shares traded near €10.34, breaking above technical resistance levels and generating a long‑term bullish signal in recent trading analyses.
