Development banks report growth in West African and Cameroonian portfolios
The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (BIDC) reported an 11.9% increase in its net commitment portfolio for 2025, reaching 3.0739 billion units of account (approximately $4.14 billion USD). Despite the exit of 23 operations due to project completions or cancellations, the bank saw growth driven by new financing. Public sector commitments rose to 56.7% of the portfolio, while the private sector accounted for 43.3%. Infrastructure remains the primary focus, representing 47.32% of net commitments.
In Cameroon, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is preparing to establish a 2027-2029 engagement framework. Discussions are scheduled for mid-September in Yaoundé to prioritize projects in energy, road infrastructure, and education. The IsDB's active portfolio in Cameroon is valued at nearly $1 billion. The upcoming framework aims to formalize a three-year partnership to mobilize financing for flagship projects.
