Developmental challenges face La Guajira and Paraguay
In Colombia, the region of La Guajira faces the challenges of globalization and multilateralism. While globalization fosters economic, technological, and social interconnection through free trade and artificial intelligence, it requires local economies to be prepared to compete through infrastructure, financing, and training to avoid being disadvantaged by international competition.
In Paraguay, significant infrastructure gaps persist, with approximately 83.7% of the nation's roads remaining unpaved. Data from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications indicates that out of nearly 78,800 kilometers of roads, only 12,912 kilometers are paved or improved. This lack of connectivity causes isolation for rural communities, hindering access to education, healthcare, and markets for local producers.
