Devendra Fadnavis meets PM Modi to discuss Maharashtra development
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to discuss the state's developmental roadmap. The discussions focused on infrastructure, including highways, railways, metro lines, and river-linking projects, as well as industrial development and social sector initiatives. Fadnavis sought enhanced cooperation and central assistance for joint Centre-State projects.
During his visit, Fadnavis also met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to request financial assistance via JICA for the Sea-Link project and discussed necessary clearances for various state initiatives. Additionally, Fadnavis addressed and dismissed ongoing speculation regarding a potential move to national politics or a role in the Union Cabinet, reaffirming his commitment to serving as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Separately, Fadnavis participated in the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) National Convention 2026 in Mumbai. The convention highlighted the growing India-US strategic partnership, with US Ambassador Sergio Gor noting that bilateral investment has surged to $240 billion over the last two decades.
In a separate administrative development, the Maharashtra government notified new rules of business that grant the Chief Minister the legal authority to intervene in or override decisions made by cabinet ministers if deemed necessary for the public interest.
