Deventer canoe polo club faces training crisis due to low water

Low water levels in the IJssel river have forced the Deventer canoe polo club to seek alternative training locations. The club's fields in the Havenkwartier area, specifically near Gashavenstraat, are currently unusable due to the drought.

One field has dried up completely, while the remaining two are only 40 centimeters deep. This falls significantly short of the 90-centimeter minimum required by competition rules. Club members noted that the conditions have made training more akin to ‘mud wrestling’ than canoe polo.

The disruption is particularly critical for the club's A and B teams, which include several players selected for the Dutch Under-21 national team. With the World Championships scheduled for September, the club is urgently searching for new sites to ensure athletes can prepare for international competition.
