Deventer: Driver rescued from burning van after A1 collision

A delivery van collided with the rear of a truck on the A1 motorway near Deventer during the early hours of Friday, October 9. The collision, which occurred around 03:00 between Bathmen and Deventer, caused the van to catch fire shortly after impact.

Bystanders intervened to pull the driver from the vehicle after he became trapped, an action police believe likely saved his life. The driver sustained serious leg injuries and was transported to a hospital by ambulance. While initial reports suggested a possible passenger, emergency services confirmed the driver was the sole occupant.

The truck driver remained uninjured and was able to continue driving after sustaining minor damage to the rear of the vehicle. The van was completely destroyed by the fire. The incident caused significant traffic disruption as the A1 was closed in the direction of Deventer.
