Deventer opens new special education school on Holterweg

A new secondary special education (VSO) school has opened on Holterweg in Deventer. Managed by the SOTOG foundation, the facility was designed to provide a quiet, home-like environment for students, featuring soft colors, natural wood, and large windows to create a calming atmosphere.

The project follows a four-year development process initiated in 2022 after the Inspectorate requested SOTOG to take over an existing school in an older building. The move aims to provide local education for Deventer students, many of whom previously had to commute to schools outside the city, thereby reducing high transportation costs. The new building occupies a site that had been vacant for approximately ten years.
