Devin Haney accused of using Jack Catterall as decoy in Paro negotiations

WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney is facing accusations from Jack Catterall and manager Sam Jones of using Catterall as a ‘decoy’ during negotiations. The camp alleges that Haney used the prospect of a fight with Catterall to gain leverage and pressure IBF titleholder Liam Paro into accepting more favorable terms for a unification bout.

Following the collapse of a planned October fight between Haney and Keyshawn Davis, Haney has been linked to a potential clash with Paro, reportedly targeted for October 3. Catterall has expressed his belief that Haney never intended to fight him, stating, “Devin was never going to fight me it was this all along.”

In a separate development, Haney’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, revealed long-term ambitions for the fighter. After pursuing the undisputed welterweight title through a potential fight with Paro, the camp intends to move Haney up in weight to pursue a ‘mega fight’ against Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis for the undisputed super-welterweight crown.
