Devin Haney's mandatory welterweight defense set for July 27 purse bid

The World Boxing Organization ordered a purse‑bid for champion Devin Haney’s mandatory welterweight title defense against challenger Keyshawn Davis after the parties failed to reach a deal. The bid will be held on Monday, July 27, at the WBO headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with a minimum bid of $200,000. The winning purse will be split 75 % to Haney and 25 % to Davis, as stipulated by WBO rules.

Haney’s manager Bill Haney publicly taunted Davis on social media, emphasizing the financial advantage for the champion. Boxing coach Stephen Edwards called the WBO’s action a “brilliant” move for Haney’s camp, noting that the split gives the champion leverage in any subsequent negotiations. Haney, who has not fought since his November victory over Brian Norman Jr., and Davis, an undefeated prospect moving up to welterweight, remain eligible to negotiate terms before the bid takes place.
