Devin Nunes praises Portugal-U.S. relations and urges naval investment

Devin Nunes, leader of the U.S. President's Intelligence Advisory Board, stated in Angra do Heroísmo that relations between Portugal, the Azores, and the United States have never been stronger.

Speaking at a conference regarding the Azores' role in transatlantic relations, Nunes cited increased United Airlines connectivity and the installation of submarine cables as evidence of deepening ties. He also acknowledged the strategic importance of the Lajes Air Base on Terceira Island for Atlantic defense.

Nunes suggested that Portugal should leverage its strategic location by investing in the naval industry and military technology. He recommended that the country focus on entrepreneurship and innovation in sectors like drone technology and naval capacity to protect its resources and facilitate stronger partnerships with the United States. He specifically highlighted companies such as Tekever and Douro Azul as examples of relevant technological entrepreneurship.
