Devlet Bahceli proposes 2028 early elections to support Erdogan candidacy

Devlet Bahceli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party, has proposed holding early elections in Turkey by 2028. This proposal is intended to create a legal pathway for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to run for office again.

Speaking to his party's parliamentary group, Bahceli emphasized that a decision for new elections must be reached in Parliament with the maximum possible consensus. He noted that the current third presidential term is marked by significant developments both domestically and internationally, requiring the resilience and experience embodied by the current presidential system and Erdogan.

Bahceli characterized the legal, political, and social justifications for supporting Erdogan's candidacy through the People's Alliance as ‘more than sufficient’.
