Devon and Cornwall Police investigate ANPR camera vandalism
Devon and Cornwall Police have launched an investigation following repeated vandalism and theft of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras in North Cornwall. The targeted equipment is located in rural areas between St Merryn and Trekenning.
Chief Inspector Simon Jenkinson, Head of Roads Policing, stated that the cameras were installed to prevent rural crime and protect communities rather than to monitor speeding. He noted that the repeated damage and theft of these public-funded assets result in considerable replacement costs for taxpayers.
Authorities are appealing to the public for information regarding the damage. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the police via 101 or the official website, quoting reference 50260134413, or to call 999 if a crime is currently in progress.
