Devon and Cornwall Police report 1,409 positive drink-drive tests

Data obtained via Freedom of Information requests reveals that Devon and Cornwall Police conducted 11,417 roadside breath tests between April 2025 and June 2026. Of these tests, 1,409 produced positive readings, indicating drivers were over the legal alcohol limit.

Approximately one in eight roadside breath tests during this period resulted in a positive reading. The highest volume of testing occurred in December 2025, with 1,053 tests conducted. However, the highest number of positive results was recorded in May 2025, when 126 out of 835 tests were positive.

The figures, which utilized Lion 500B breath-testing devices, represent roadside screenings and do not necessarily equate to the number of drivers ultimately convicted of drink-driving, as positive results may lead to further enforcement actions.
