Devon Conservative MPs Confirm Candidacy for Next General Election

Four Conservative MPs from Devon have said they will stand in the next UK general election when it is called. The party confirmed that its sitting MPs in the county have been readopted, while the Liberal Democrats are still selecting candidates and Labour and Reform UK have not announced their selections.

The most senior figures are Sir Mel Stride, the shadow chancellor who has represented Central Devon since 2010, and Sir Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and Tavistock since 2005 and former attorney general. Newcomers include David Reed, who won the newly created Exmouth and Exeter East seat in 2024 by a margin of 121 votes over Labour’s Helen Dallimore, and Rebecca Smith, the first‑time MP for South West Devon. All pledged to continue representing their constituencies and addressing local priorities.
