Devon launches ‘It Takes a Village’ roadshow to recruit foster carers

Fostering Devon has launched the ‘It Takes a Village’ campaign, a community roadshow designed to increase the number of foster carers across the county. The initiative aims to address a shortage of local placements, which currently forces some children in care to move away from their familiar schools, friends, and support networks.

The campaign will kick off with an event at Buckfastleigh Town Hall on Tuesday, September 1, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the fostering team, participate in discussions, and hear directly from current foster carers about their experiences.

Councillor Stuart Rogers, representing Ashburton and Buckfastleigh, emphasized that children thrive when they remain connected to their local communities. Liz Pearson Clarke, service manager for Fostering Devon, noted that the campaign invites the community to learn about the vital role local support networks play in a child's life.
