Devshayani Ekadashi 2026: Auspicious Practices and Forbidden Activities

Devshayani Ekadashi falls on 25 July 2026, a Hindu observance marking the day Lord Vishnu enters a four‑month yogic sleep (Chaturmas). During this period, major ceremonies such as marriages, house‑warming, and other auspicious rites are avoided, while devotional activities, fasting, and meditation are encouraged.

Astrological calculations indicate that the year will be especially favorable for the zodiac signs Aries, Taurus, Virgo and Libra, promising material gains, career progress and harmony in personal relationships. Devotees are advised to offer yellow garments, yellow flowers, yellow sandalwood and saffron‑flavored sweets, and to keep a basil (tulsi) leaf in the offering.

Traditional prohibitions for the day include consumption of meat, fish, eggs, alcohol and other tamasic foods, as well as eating rice. Individuals should also refrain from insulting the poor, elders, saints or parents, avoid lying or deceit, and should not break basil leaves before the prescribed time. The day is considered most suitable for prayer, scriptural study and spiritual reflection.
