Dewas suspicious deaths spark investigation amid liquor poisoning claims
Authorities in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district are investigating a series of suspicious deaths in Chandana and Bijana villages. Between September 27 and October 16, reports emerged of up to 13 deaths, with families alleging the fatalities were linked to the consumption of spurious liquor. Victims reportedly experienced symptoms such as vomiting, restlessness, and loss of vision before dying.
Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda has refuted claims of poisoning, stating that post-mortem reports for the deaths showed no trace of spurious liquor. He noted that eight of the ten confirmed deaths were natural, and the remaining two also showed no evidence of toxic substances.
However, political leaders, including State Congress President Jitu Patwari and former Union Minister Arun Yadav, have challenged the administration's findings. They have demanded a thorough investigation, the suspension of responsible officials, and compensation of one crore rupees for each victim's family, accusing the administration of attempting a cover-up.
