Dexter McCoy leads Daniel Wong in Fort Bend County judge race
Unofficial election results indicate that Dexter McCoy, the outgoing Fort Bend County Precinct 4 Commissioner and Democratic candidate, holds a significant lead over current interim judge Daniel Wong in the race for Fort Bend County judge. As of Tuesday night, McCoy led approximately 60 percent to 40 percent.
The election follows a period of political and legal instability in the county. Former County Judge KP George was convicted of felony money laundering and subsequently suspended, leading a Galveston County district judge to appoint Republican Daniel Wong to the position on an interim basis. The legality of Wong’s interim appointment has been the subject of a lawsuit brought by the Fort Bend County Attorney’s Office, which is scheduled for trial in December.
If McCoy prevails, he will oversee county operations, the budget, and emergency management. He is expected to be sworn in in January, alongside April Jones, who is slated to take over the Precinct 4 commissioner seat vacated by McCoy. Other Democratic candidates, including District Attorney Brian Middleton, are also expected to secure victories.
