DEYAK to return 632,674 euros in RES tax to Kozani Municipality
The Board of Directors of DEYAK has unanimously decided to return 632,674.76 euros to the Municipality of Kozani. This amount represents funds previously withheld from the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) tax in 2024.
The funds were originally intercepted by DAPEE to settle debts owed by DEYAK to the Public Power Corporation (PPC S.A.). This arrangement stems from a thermal energy supply contract signed in February 2019 and a subsequent supplement in December 2024. Under these agreements, DEYAK acknowledged a total debt of 16,361,630 euros to PPC S.A., with a remaining balance of 10,707,343 euros to be repaid using RES tax revenues.
Legally, the Municipality of Kozani acts as a guarantor for DEYAK’s obligations to PPC S.A. Based on Article 858 of the Civil Code, the municipality is entitled to reclaim funds paid on behalf of the primary debtor. While the decision to return the funds was supported by board members, including Sultana Ventouli and Ioannis Myforofidis, concerns were raised regarding the lack of a specific timeline or defined method for the repayment.
