DFB confronts captain and coach resignations after World Cup loss

Former Germany international and TV analyst Dietmar Hamann urged national team captain Joshua Kimmich to step down after the side’s 0‑1 defeat to Paraguay in the World Cup round of 16. Hamann said, “He had five tournaments in a responsible position and he failed all five,” and called a resignation “a sign of responsibility.”

The German Football Association’s supervisory board and shareholders met in Frankfurt to discuss head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s future following the same early exit. Media reports indicate Nagelsmann is expected to announce his resignation, and the board is already considering Jürgen Klopp as the leading candidate to replace him. The meeting also covered the possible futures of sport director Rudi Völler and CEO Andreas Rettig.
