DFCC Bank acquires Standard Chartered Sri Lanka's retail and wealth units

DFCC Bank PLC has completed the acquisition of Standard Chartered Bank Sri Lanka's wealth management and retail banking business, adding roughly 50,000 customers and related employees to its network. The deal transfers priority banking, deposits, credit cards, personal lending, SME portfolios and selected operational assets, allowing customers to retain existing account numbers, cards, standing orders and direct debits while gaining access to DFCC's 130+ branches and 5,000+ LankaPay ATMs. DFCC CEO Thimal Perera highlighted the smooth technical migration and the expanded service offering, while Standard Chartered Sri Lanka CEO Bingumal Thewarathanthri said the move aligns with the Group’s global strategy. Industry observers note the acquisition strengthens DFCC’s position in Sri Lanka’s competitive retail and wealth management sector, though the long‑term impact on customer experience will be monitored.
