DFW Airport to install Islamic ablution stations in Terminal D

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is planning to install dedicated Islamic ablution (wudu) stations in Terminal D. The project, which is estimated to cost approximately $300,000, involves adding one men’s station and one women’s station to existing concourse-level restrooms.

According to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the project is expected to be privately funded and is scheduled to begin on August 31, with an estimated completion by the end of 2026. The stations are intended to provide a sanitary way for Muslim travelers to perform ritual purification before prayer, helping to prevent water from being splashed into standard sinks and keeping restroom floors dry to reduce slip hazards.

While the airport is evaluating the proposal, similar facilities already exist at other major U.S. hubs like Chicago O’Hare and Indianapolis. The plan has drawn varying reactions, including criticism from some national commentators and support from others who view it as a practical matter of airport management and safety.
