DG Matrix and Skeleton Technologies partner on 800 VDC power for AI data centres

DG Matrix and Skeleton Technologies have announced a strategic technical and commercial collaboration aimed at supporting the data‑centre industry's transition to 800 VDC power for AI workloads. The partnership combines Skeleton’s high‑power, fast‑response energy‑storage systems with DG Matrix’s galvanically isolated Interport™ multi‑port solid‑state transformer (SST) platform. Together they will offer solutions such as the Interport CM medium‑voltage SST skid, which converts 12–34.5 kV AC directly to high‑voltage DC, the Interport CL sidecar for managing GPU pulse loads in white‑space environments, and the Interport Flex outdoor system for grey‑space applications. The combined technology is designed to absorb extreme, repetitive pulse loads from GPU clusters, support fault ride‑through, and provide rapid backup power, addressing challenges that exceed the capabilities of conventional UPS and battery systems.

Skeleton CEO Taavi Madiberk said, “The shift to 800 VDC power architecture represents one of the most important evolutions in the data centre industry. Fast‑acting energy storage is essential to ensuring that GPU bursts don’t destabilize electric grids.” Research cited by the companies forecasts about 39 GW of additional AI data‑centre capacity using 800 VDC architecture by 2030, with the solid‑state transformer market valued at roughly $13 billion.
