Portugal to purchase 75 tactical vehicles from Spain
Portugal is set to acquire 75 VAMTAC tactical vehicles for its Navy Marines through a €133 million investment. The procurement is being conducted in cooperation with Spain, with the vehicles manufactured by the Spanish company Urovesa.
The acquisition is financed by the European SAFE (Security for Europe Action Instrument), which provides favorable loans for military re-equipment. A memorandum of understanding will be formalized in Porto to establish the terms of this cooperation. The Ministry of National Defence noted that the decision was supported by the fact that the Portuguese Army already operates over one hundred of these vehicles, which will allow for the optimization of existing capabilities.
Deliveries of the new tactical vehicles are expected to occur in phases between 2027 and 2029.
