DGB claims Hessen civil servant salary reform is unconstitutional

The German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) Hessen-Thüringen has criticized a proposed reform of civil servant salaries in the state of Hessen, claiming the plan is unconstitutional. In a letter to the state parliament, the DGB argued that the coalition government's draft law violates the Basic Law.

The union's position is supported by an expert opinion from constitutional lawyer Anna Leisner-Egensperger. The critique specifically targets the transition from a single-earner model to a family-income model and the removal of the first experience level in salary group A. The DGB is urging political factions to amend the law before it is passed.
