DGD Klinik Hohe Mark hosts inaugural depression treatment symposium
The DGD Klinik Hohe Mark held its inaugural Hohe-Mark-Symposium in Oberursel, focusing on new educational formats for treating depressive illnesses. The event, which was fully booked weeks in advance, emphasized a “bio-psycho-social-spiritual” approach to mental health.
Medical Director Prof. Dr. Markus Steffens highlighted the significant impact of depression, noting that approximately six million people in Germany are affected. He addressed the economic and social consequences, including increased mortality, early retirement, and sick leave, while stressing that depression is treatable if biological, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions are addressed together. He also urged patients not to let social stigma prevent them from seeking professional help.
Anke Berger-Schmitt, Managing Director of the clinic, noted that the symposium reflects the institution’s commitment to multiprofessional collaboration and diverse therapeutic offerings. Dr. Nikolaos Sapoutzis, head of the Hochtaunus district health office, also attended to recognize the clinic’s central role in the region.
