DGIST recruits 85 students for 2027 AI/SW SCHOOL

The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) has announced the recruitment of approximately 85 students for its 2027 'DGIST AI/SW SCHOOL'. The program is designed for 5th and 6th grade elementary students and 1st and 2nd grade middle school students residing in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions.

The curriculum consists of 10 specialized courses, including six math and science convergence courses and four artificial intelligence courses. Rather than treating AI as a standalone subject, the program emphasizes using AI as a tool for data analysis, simulation, and modeling within scientific inquiry. Students will engage with research areas such as bio-science, brain science, physics, and robotics.

Instruction will follow a small-group model, with approximately 10 students per group guided by a DGIST professor, specialized teachers or doctoral researchers, and a teaching assistant. The educational approach focuses on problem-based learning (PBL), projects, and hands-on experiments rather than advanced preparatory learning.

Applications will be accepted from October 19 to November 20, with no application fee. DGIST is also pursuing official approval to expand the program into a specialized gifted education center designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
