DGIST Secures 279 billion KRW for Brain‑Robot “Glocal Lab” Initiative

The Daegu‑Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) held a joint plaque‑ceremony and workshop on 22 May, attended by more than 120 researchers, students and partner‑institution representatives. The event marked DGIST’s selection for the 2025 “Glocal Lab” research programme, which will provide 270 billion KRW in national funding plus an additional 9 billion KRW from Daegu city, totalling 279 billion KRW over nine years.

The two participating units – the Brain Engineering Convergence Research Center and the Robotics and Mechanical Electronics Research Institute – outlined their plans to develop neuro‑replica digital‑twin technology and “TransHuman Robotics.” Expected outcomes include advanced AI‑driven brain‑disease prediction, personalized neuro‑stimulation, next‑generation artificial‑sensation devices, and robotic systems that augment human movement, perception and cognition for healthcare, smart manufacturing, and even space or marine applications. DGIST President Lee Geon‑woo pledged support for strategic fields such as physical AI, human digital twins and quantum sensing to elevate the university to a global innovation hub.
