DGOJ intensifies oversight of online gambling licenses

The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) is increasing its oversight of online gaming operators to ensure compliance with licensing requirements. This regulatory tightening is driven by binding orders from the European Union aimed at protecting the market and preventing fraud.

Under Royal Decree 848/2017, operators are required to renew their licenses every three years, a process that involves exhaustive audits of financial reports, responsible gaming mechanisms, and anti-fraud measures. Failure to maintain valid certification can result in significant consequences for companies, including multimillion-euro fines, forced closures, and reputational damage.

To protect consumers, the DGOJ emphasizes the importance of verifying license status through official public databases to avoid platforms operating without valid certification.
