DGT activates new speed cameras in Soria, Segovia, and Albacete

The Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has activated five new speed cameras in Soria, Segovia, and Albacete. Starting September 1, these devices will transition from issuing informative letters to imposing fines of up to 600 euros and the loss of six driver's license points. The new installations include one fixed radar in Soria and four section control radars located in Segovia and Albacete.

Section control technology calculates average speed over several kilometers rather than instantaneous speed, meaning sudden braking at the camera will not prevent a violation. The DGT also maintains specific tolerance margins for different radar types: fixed radars allow 5 km/h (or 5% above 100 km/h), mobile radars allow 7 km/h (or 7% above 100 km/h), and section control radars allow 3 km/h (or 3% above 100 km/h).

Additional driving regulations highlight significant penalties for other infractions. Throwing objects from a vehicle that pose a fire risk or traffic danger can result in a 500-euro fine and six points lost. Furthermore, while mobile phone supports are permitted, improper placement that obstructs the driver's view can lead to a 100-euro fine, and touching a phone while driving carries a 200-euro penalty and six points.
