DGT implements new motorcycle regulations in Spain

The Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has implemented new regulations for motorcycle and moped riders, effective October 1. These changes focus on safety equipment and road usage.

Drivers and passengers are now required to wear closed footwear on all types of roads, including urban areas. Failure to comply is classified as a serious infraction, carrying a 200 euro fine. Additionally, riders must wear protective gloves when traveling on interurban roads; while these gloves do not yet need to be officially certified, non-compliance also results in a 200 euro fine.

Regarding road usage, motorcycles are now permitted to use the right shoulder during specific traffic congestion periods, provided the area is clearly signposted. In these designated zones, riders must not exceed a speed of 30 km/h. Furthermore, delivery riders are now required to wear reflective vests during their working hours.
