Bangladesh customs seize gold and diamonds at major airports

Customs authorities in Bangladesh have conducted several major seizures of gold, diamonds, and luxury items at international airports.

At Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, officials intercepted multiple smuggling attempts. In one instance, a passenger arriving from Kolkata was found with a large cache of diamonds, platinum, and gold jewelry valued at approximately Tk2.70 crore. In a separate incident, customs officers recovered 1.29 kg of gold paste that had been concealed inside a passenger's body to bypass security.

At Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, authorities seized 434 grams of gold from passengers arriving from Dubai. The seizure included gold jewelry and gold bars that were hidden in shoes and during body searches. The total value of the items seized across the Dhaka and Chattogram operations, including an iPhone 18 Pro Max, is estimated at approximately Tk1.39 crore.
