Dhaka plans two new monorail routes by 2030

The government is advancing plans to construct two monorail routes in Dhaka by 2030. Following the completion of a pre-feasibility study conducted by consultants from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), work is now underway to develop detailed designs for the proposed routes.

The Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) stated that the monorail system is intended to expand the capital's public transport network, providing an eco-friendly, sustainable, and efficient transit option. The new routes are expected to integrate with existing and planned metro rail services to facilitate smoother travel, particularly in high-demand areas.

Final route selection will be based on technical, economic, and environmental evaluations, with a focus on passenger demand and financial viability. The government has allocated 75.7 million BDT from the revenue budget for the pre-feasibility study and the development of detailed designs, which are expected to be submitted within six months.
