Dhaka police arrest suspect in Jaj Mia murder case

Police in Dhaka have arrested one individual in connection with the murder of 44-year-old Jaj Mia, whose body was recovered from the Jirani Khal canal near the Trimohoni Bridge in Khilgaon.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Md. Abdullah, was apprehended on Thursday evening. According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the victim reportedly went to a garage in Merul Badda late on the night of September 8, where he was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons by Abdullah and several others. The perpetrators then transported the body via an auto-rickshaw and discarded it in the canal.

During preliminary interrogation, Abdullah claimed the killing was motivated by an alleged extramarital affair between the victim and the wife of one of his associates. However, police officials stated they are not yet treating this as the definitive motive and are continuing to verify the facts through CCTV footage, call detail records, and forensic evidence. A murder case has been filed by the victim's wife, Rozina Akter, at the Khilgaon Police Station, and operations are underway to apprehend other suspects involved in the incident.
