Dhaka ranks sixth globally for most polluted air

Dhaka has been ranked as the sixth most polluted city in the world according to data from IQAir. On Wednesday, October 21, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 167, a level classified by experts as ‘unhealthy’.

Lahore, Pakistan, topped the global list with a score of 265, followed by Delhi, India, at 257. Other cities with unhealthy air quality included Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Mumbai, India; and Jakarta, Indonesia.

Health experts advise that when AQI scores exceed 151, it becomes dangerous for the general public to be outdoors without masks. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory issues such as asthma, are advised to limit outdoor exposure.
