Dhaka urban development: Minister orders ‘Clean City, Green City’ plan implementation
Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, Dr. Abdul Moen Khan, has directed the implementation of the Prime Minister’s ‘Clean City, Green City’ vision for Dhaka. During a review meeting at the Secretariat, the minister emphasized the need for short, medium, and long-term environmental plans for the capital.
Key directives include the identification of boundaries and excavation of canals to mitigate waterlogging in both Dhaka North and South City Corporations. The minister also called for improved waste management, suggesting that waste collection be conducted at night to prevent odors and aesthetic degradation during the day.
To enhance urban aesthetics, Dr. Khan recommended planting perennial flowering plants along roadsides and increasing greenery. He stressed the importance of public awareness through mass media to encourage proper waste disposal habits and urged better coordination between city corporations and relevant agencies regarding traffic management and urban beautification.
