Dharmendra Gehlot resigns from BJP
Former Ajmer Mayor Dharmendra Gehlot has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and stepped down from his role as Nagaur district in-charge. The resignation comes ahead of upcoming civic elections in Rajasthan.
In a video statement, Gehlot alleged that Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani used his influence to pressure him due to political and ideological differences. Gehlot claimed that the Department of Local Self-Government issued notices to him regarding cases from 2015–2020 and 2021 at Devnani’s behest.
The legal controversy involves the approval of maps in 13 files during a period when the Municipal Corporation Commissioner was on leave. While a judicial inquiry and an Anti-Corruption Bureau investigation were previously initiated, the state government has recently granted sanction for prosecution. Gehlot stated he would remain resigned until these matters are resolved and promised to present facts to the public to clarify his position.
