Dharmendra Pradhan faces speculation as potential Odisha Chief Minister

Speculation is growing regarding whether former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will replace Mohan Charan Majhi as the Chief Minister of Odisha. This follows Mr. Pradhan’s resignation from the Union Cabinet amidst student protests concerning Neet exam paper leaks.

Following his resignation, Mr. Pradhan conducted a road trip to his parliamentary constituency in Sambalpur, where he addressed a public rally and emphasized Odia pride. His planned extensive tour of the state has led to political chatter regarding a potential appointment. Although he was not selected as Chief Minister when the BJP took control of the state from the Biju Janata Dal two years ago, he reportedly maintains the confidence of the party leadership.

Separately, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed readiness to debate the student protests over the Neet exam leaks during the Monsoon Session. However, the offer was rejected by the Congress-led opposition, which had been demanding a response regarding the July 20 police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar.
