Dhiraj Bommadevara wins historic archery World Cup Final gold

Dhiraj Bommadevara has become the first Indian male recurve archer to win gold at the Archery World Cup Final. The 25-year-old, currently ranked World No. 10, secured the title in Saltillo, Mexico, by defeating Japan’s Junya Nakanishi in a five-set match. After the sets ended in a 5-5 tie, Bommadevara won the gold via a 10-9 shoot-off.

This victory ends a 16-year wait for an Indian male recurve archer to claim this specific title. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu congratulated Bommadevara, noting his journey from Vijayawada to the global podium and describing him as an inspiration to young sporting talent in the state.

Bommadevara is scheduled to travel to Japan for the upcoming Asian Games, where he will lead India’s recurve archery campaign.
