DHL cargo plane catches fire during landing at LAX
A DHL cargo plane, operated by Kalitta Charters II, caught fire during a landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Wednesday night. The Boeing 737-800 was arriving from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport when a brake malfunction occurred.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and DHL, the brakes locked up upon touchdown on Runway 25L, causing them to overheat and blow four tires. The resulting friction triggered explosions and intense flames beneath the aircraft's belly and landing gear. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded immediately, deploying multiple units to extinguish the fire and prevent it from reaching the fuel tanks.
