DHL Express secures 6,000 tonnes of SAF from Moeve for Madrid hub

DHL Express and biocarbon producer Moeve have signed a one‑year contract (July 2026 – June 2027) to supply roughly 6,000 metric tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the DHL hub at Adolfo Suárez Madrid‑Barajas Airport. The volume, equivalent to about 2 million US gallons, is expected to cover around 50 % of the airline’s fuel use at the Madrid centre.

The SAF will be produced from waste‑derived feedstocks such as used cooking oil, in line with EU renewable‑energy directives. Life‑cycle analysis shows the fuel can cut greenhouse‑gas emissions by roughly 80 % compared with conventional jet fuel. DHL cites the deal as a key step toward its target of using SAF for more than 30 % of its air‑transport fuel by 2030 and part of its broader zero‑emission logistics ambition.

Tomás Holgado, vice‑president of aviation for DHL Express Spain, said the agreement “allows us to increase SAF use significantly at one of our main European hubs and demonstrates how collaboration across the value chain can accelerate the transition to lower‑emission air cargo.”
