DHL Global Forwarding integrates perishables into global strategy
DHL Global Forwarding has integrated its perishables operations into its global strategy, moving away from country-specific management to provide end-to-end solutions. The division has seen significant organic growth in recent years.
At its headquarters near Schiphol Airport, the company operates a 24,000 m² warehouse featuring a dedicated 1,300 m² perishables department. To ensure cold chain integrity, the facility utilizes temperature-controlled areas with 24/7 monitoring and redundancy solutions. According to Business Development Manager Sico van der Horst, these in-house capabilities allow the company to remain largely independent of airline fluctuations. While DHL is a major global player, the perishables department operates with specialized teams and short decision-making paths.
