DHL to introduce cashless door‑to‑door payments in Germany

DHL Germany will roll out cashless payment options for customs fees, additional charges and cash‑on‑delivery parcels at the doorstep. The rollout begins at the end of July and will be completed nationwide by early August. Accepted methods include Girocard, credit cards, mobile payment services such as Apple Pay and other NFC‑enabled smartphone or smartwatch solutions. Cash remains an option where required, while cash‑on‑delivery payments are limited to Girocard for security reasons.

The new feature will be added to the hand‑scanner used by couriers, allowing contact‑less transactions and speeding up the delivery process. DHL expects the change to ease the handling of cash for drivers and simplify the payment experience for customers.
