DHS and Census Bureau face scrutiny over noncitizen voting claims
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Census Bureau are facing scrutiny over reports regarding noncitizen voting in the 2020 election. A Census Bureau report claimed that more than 24,000 voters were linked to records indicating noncitizen status. However, experts and former officials have criticized the report's methodology, suggesting it lacks transparency and could produce false positives by incorrectly linking names to citizenship records.
Separately, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin previously claimed that 250,000 noncitizens were registered to vote across four states. In Nevada specifically, the administration initially suggested as many as 15,903 noncitizens were on the voter rolls. Following a manual review, DHS officials informed Nevada election administrators that they had only confirmed 185 potential noncitizen voters. Officials clarified that the higher figure represented a preliminary ceiling and had not undergone full manual vetting, with over 14,000 cases still undergoing review.
